From Tradition to Modernity – Handcrafts Carried Forward

We take our time, working with care
to finish simple Jizashi stitching.
That is “Munakata Stitch.”
Every stitch reflects the heart.
As if hand-copying sutras in a temple,
we strive to keep a calm, steady mind.
The time we spend face-to-face with cloth is
the time that shapes who we are.
Sashiko: A technique that breathes new life into fabrics
Since ancient times, we have reinforced old cloth with thread.
It has become a daily routine to recycle and reuse things.
That's how people have enjoyed the beauty of life.
In the Reiwa era,
What was ordinary a century ago has become extraordinary.
We may be rushing through time—
too quickly, too soon.
However, it is also true that we cannot go back in time.
Too often seen only as culture today,
sashiko becomes life itself
with Mu-ju Munakata.
