Vol.1 Brushing Sashiko stitches

It has been 15 years since I started Munakata Stitch.
When we asked people who still use our early works for tips,
After all, you do your own maintenance.
The photo shows a coat made from Oshima Tsumugi silk stitched by the owner's grandmother.
It's been nearly 10 years since the work was done,
The fabric has changed to a supple one, giving the coat a unique character.
This time we will introduce brushing.

First, when you get home, dust off the front door.
In early spring, pollen and, in Fukuoka, yellow sand from the continent can damage fabric.
We recommend using brushes with natural bristles whenever possible.
To prevent static electricity, it contains a moderate amount of oil and moisture.
It would be a good idea to choose something like boar bristles.
First, hang your clothes on a hanger with thick shoulders.
Brush from bottom to top, following the grain of the fabric.
Put on the watch by rotating your wrist.
Dust falls from above and accumulates on the threads.
Brushing to remove dust
Move your hands lightly and gently.
First, brush from above along the grain of the fibers.
This will actually push the dust into the stitching.
To finish, brush from top to bottom
Brush gently along the grain of the fibers.
There is air between the stitch threads
It will have a fluffy finish.
Brushing your precious clothes
The less you wash it, the longer it will last.
Finally, store the brush by hanging it.
Don't forget to keep the dust out of the bristles of the brush.
